KEYBOARDS

Q: What do the Windows® keys on a Key Tronic keyboard do in Windows®?

A: The keys to the immediate left and right of the spacebar and Alt keys bring up the Start menu in Windows®. These are called the Windows® keys. The key to the farthest right delivers a right mouse button click. This key is called the applications key. Refer to the user manual that comes with all Windows® products for specifically how these keys work in your software application.

Q: Will the LifeTime keyboard work on the serial port if I use an adapter?

A. Yes, the LifeTime keyboard can be plugged into either the PS/2-port or the serial RS-232 by using the adapter supplied with the keyboard.

Q: What international languages are available?

A: Please see our PC Partnership Programme details on our website.  This program is specially designed to provide build-to-order keyboards in over 40 languages.  These keyboards can be available to you within days of your order.  Minimum quantity required.

Q: How do I enable the international language on my keyboard?

A: In DOS select the proper code page from the selections provided by your version of DOS. In Windows® 3.x select the proper code page in the Windows® Setup screen. In Windows® ’95, ’98 or NT select the proper code page from those provided in the control panel – keyboard – language screen. BIOMETRICS

Q: What software is available with the fingerprint keyboard?

A: The Key Tronic fingerprint scanner is bundled with Identicator's® Bio Logon® software which is available in English, French, German and Spanish. For more information on Identicator Technology's software, visit their web site at www.identicator.com

Q: Are the Fingerprint Keyboard and the Stand Alone Scanner supported by NT?

A: The Bio Logon software fully supports Windows®95, 98 and NT 4.0

Q: Can the database of fingerprints be stored on a central server, rather than on each individual work station?

A: Fingerprints are never stored. The system works by verifying an algorithm, which is stored. The fingerprint itself isn't. The algorithm can be stored on a central server.

Q: How long does the authentication process take?

A: The total authentication process takes 1 second.

Q: How easy is it to add a new fingerprint to the system?

A: The System Administrator can add additional users in about 1 minute by following the step-by-step programme.

Q: How easy is it to delete a fingerprint from the system?

A: The System Administrator can delete an individual using the task manager in just a matter of seconds.

Q: Problems installing the software?

A: If for any reason the software has to be reinstalled the previous install has to be removed. If it is not removed the previous registration number is still in the registration file, and this may not match the current install "Computer ID". The uninstall program for Windows® does not uninstall a subdirectory that has had changes made to it after the original install. You will have to manually remove the Bio Logon subdirectory.

Q: What problems can arise when the fingerprint is decrypted by the server and sent to the workstation?

A: The finger print is not sent to the workstation, it is only verified on the server.

Q: What is the encryption equipment?

A: Microsoft Default Cryptographic Provider

Q: Is Microsoft Default Cryptographic Provider compatible with Service Pack 4?

A: Yes.

Q.  On an Windows® NT machine, are all accounts transferred to Fingerprint security or can certain users continue using password security.

A.  The NT administrator has to ability to decide which accounts use fingerprint security and which continue to use password security.

MPRII

Q: Why do I need an MPR-keyboard?

A: For many years there has been a move to reduce computer radiation.

With today's MPR- and TCO-qualified monitors, the radiation from the monitor is close to eliminated. However, one radiation source remains: the user. Various combinations of synthetic fabric, together with carpeting and chairs are the cause of static charges building up. This creates a voltage difference between the user and the monitor. With the static discharge capability in the keyboard this potential difference can be eliminated and all well-known problems with static electricity eliminated.

Q: What is the function of an MPR-keyboard?

A: An MPR-keyboard has the ability to discharge the static voltage build-up from the user.  This can be achieved in a number of ways. Key Tronic's solution has an electrically conductive spacebar. Every time you press the spacebar, your static charge is drained to ground.

Q: What is the impact of an MPR-keyboard?

A: The MPR-specification requires that the static build-up of the user shall be discharged without any discomfort for the user. Your computer is protected from the risk that static discharges represents.
